There are admirable potentialities in every human being. Believe in your strength and your youth. Learn to repeat endlessly to yourself, 'It all depends on me.'

Discuss: Internet Safety
Turn to a partner to dicuss the video for 4 minutes. Name 3 things that made Jennifer's webpage unsafe? Can you think of more than 3? What are some consequences of sharing too much information online? Is Jennifer the only person facing dangers? Could this, or has this, happened to you? What are some precautions you could take to ensure that is DOES NOT happen to you?
Making your own SAFETY rules:
In small groups, you will be asked to form a list of 10 important internet safety rules you think we should all agree to follow in this class. Don't just come up with tips off the top of your head- find information from professionals on the web. Make sure that you are taking information from PROFESSIONALS though, not just random people giving advice on their blogs. The sites you use should give accurate and viable information! How do we know if sources are accurate and viable??
End Task: Using Google Docs, your group will compile a list of your top ten Internet safety rules. Next to each, you must provide evidence by providing a link to the reliable source that provided you with this idea. You may get multiple rules from one source, but your list should synthesize information from at least three (3) sources. We will create a page on our wiki that compiles your lists.
What makes an internet source reliable? What are key elements you need to look for? Should a credible source meet ALL of the criteria? On a piece of butcher paper, make a list of important information to look for in order to deem a source credible.
In your small groups, find at least three (3) Internet sources you can use to make your list. Make sure the sources meet most or all of the criteria for credibility (you may even want to take notes about author, organization, matching websites, and currency). Make sure to copy and paste the urls you find into an email or document so that you can cite and refer back to the website for additional information. We will work with these more in our next lesson so DON'T LOSE THEM!!!!
